Plan & Pricing
Pricing model: Pay-as-you-go (usage-based). RunPod offers multiple compute products (Pods, Serverless, Instant Clusters, Reserved Clusters) billed by usage with per-second/per-hour listed rates on the official pricing pages.
Free tier / trial: RunPod provides credit-based offers rather than a permanent free plan. Official programs include startup/research credit grants (application-based) and referral/bonus credits (random $5–$500 on qualifying referral actions). See notes below for details.
Example costs (as shown on RunPod official pricing page):
-
Serverless (per second values shown on pricing page):
- B200 (180GB) — Flex: 8.64 /s ; Active: 6.84 /s.
- H200 (141GB) — Flex: 5.58 /s ; Active: 4.46 /s.
- H100 (80GB) — Flex: 4.18 /s ; Active: 3.35 /s.
- A100 (80GB) — Flex: 2.72 /s ; Active: 2.17 /s.
- L40 / A6000 class (48GB) — e.g., 1.22 /s ; Active: 0.85 /s.
- 24GB/16GB classes — examples shown: 0.69 /s, 0.48 /s, 0.58 /s, 0.40 /s etc. (pricing page lists many GPU-specific per-second entries).
-
Pods / Instant Clusters (per hour examples shown on official pricing page):
- H200 SXM — $4.31 /hr.
- A100 SXM — $1.79 /hr.
- (Other Instant Cluster GPUs list “Contact sales” for some H/B-class SKUs; Instant Clusters section lists per-hour rates where available.)
-
Storage (official rates):
- Container Disk: $0.10 /GB /month.
- Volume Disk: Running - $0.10 /GB /month; Idle - $0.20 /GB /month.
- Network Storage (Standard): Under 1TB - $0.07 /GB /month; Over 1TB - $0.05 /GB /month.
- Network Storage (High-Performance): Under 1TB - $0.14 /GB /month; Over 1TB - $0.07 /GB /month.
-
Public Endpoints / Model APIs (examples shown):
- Pruna / Whisper V3 Large (audio): $0.05 per 1000 characters.
- resembleai / Chatterbox Turbo: $0.00 per 1000 characters (listed on official pricing page for that model).
- IBM Granite 4.0 H Small: $1.00 per 1M tokens.
- Various video models: per-request or per-second pricing shown on pricing page.
Billing granularity & requirements (official docs):
- The pricing pages display per-second and per-hour rates for different products; RunPod’s billing documentation states billing is charged per minute and also notes that every Pod has an hourly cost shown in the console. The docs also state you must have at least one hour’s worth of runtime in your account balance to rent a Pod.
Discounts / commitment options (official):
- Reserved Clusters / Savings Plans / Spot instances: RunPod documents on-demand Pods, savings plans, and spot pricing & offers reserved/committed durations (1mo/3mo/6mo/12mo) and enterprise reserved clusters — many reserved/residential cluster rates require contacting sales.
- Startup/research programs and enterprise reserved commitments are available by application/contact and can provide large credit grants or discounted rates.
Free plan / free trial availability (official site evidence):
- Permanent free plan: No evidence of a permanent, platform-wide “free plan” (i.e., always-free tier) on RunPod official pages — marked as Unavailable below.
- Time-limited trial / free credits: Official pages describe several credit programs: startup & research grant programs (apply for large credit grants), referral/bonus credits (random $5–$500 on qualifying actions), and promotional/new-account credit references (official articles reference new-user credit offers such as $500 in credits). These are credit-based offers rather than a stated automatic time-limited trial; they are nevertheless official ways to start with free credits.
Notes / caveats:
- Many high-capacity/reserved cluster SKUs require contacting sales and show “Contact sales” on the official pricing page.
- The pricing page lists many GPU models and the console shows the exact hourly/second rate for a chosen region & configuration — customers are directed to the RunPod console for region-specific, instance-specific rates.
