What is Softr
Softr is a no-code platform for building web apps and portals using prebuilt blocks, templates, and data connectors. It is commonly used by operations, customer success, and internal teams to create client portals, internal tools, lightweight CRMs, directories, and dashboards without custom code. The product supports data storage through its own native database as well as connections to a range of external data sources. Fast portal and app delivery
Softr provides templates and reusable UI blocks that reduce the time needed to assemble common portal and internal-tool patterns. Teams can publish web apps quickly without standing up a full custom front end. This is useful for organizations that need a working client portal or internal directory faster than a traditional development cycle. It fits well when requirements are clear and the UI can follow standard patterns.
Flexible data layer: native database and broad external integrations
Softr offers two complementary approaches to data management. Teams can store and manage data directly within Softr's native database—available on all plans—without relying on external tools. Alternatively, Softr connects to a range of external data sources including Airtable, Google Sheets, HubSpot, Notion, Supabase, SQL databases, BigQuery, monday.com, ClickUp, and others via a REST API connector. This flexibility allows organizations to maintain an existing data setup or consolidate within the platform. Multiple apps can reference the same underlying datasets, and changes in connected sources sync in real time.
AI-assisted app building
Softr includes an AI co-builder that generates a working app structure—including database schema—from a plain-language prompt, reducing initial setup effort for teams who can describe their use case but lack time to configure components from scratch. Additional AI capabilities include Database AI Agents for automated data enrichment and tagging, AI-generated formula fields and filters, and a Vibe Coding Block for generating custom UI components via prompt. For organizations evaluating no-code platforms in an AI-first context, these features lower the barrier to meaningful deployment without requiring custom development resources.
No native mobile applications
Softr generates web applications and progressive web apps (PWAs), but does not produce native iOS or Android applications. For organizations where end-user access primarily happens through mobile devices, this distinction matters: PWAs offer partial offline capability and home-screen installation, but lack the deeper device integration and app store presence of native apps. Teams requiring native mobile delivery should evaluate dedicated mobile development platforms or hybrid frameworks alongside or instead of Softr.
Customization limits for complex apps
Softr's block-based approach can constrain highly bespoke UI behavior and complex business logic. As requirements grow (multi-step transactions, complex validations, highly customized components), teams may encounter limitations that require workarounds or external services.
