What is Google Cloud CDN
Google Cloud CDN is a content delivery network service that caches and serves content from Google’s global edge locations to reduce latency and offload origin infrastructure. It is used by teams delivering web applications, APIs, and static or streaming content hosted on Google Cloud or connected origins. The service integrates with Google Cloud Load Balancing and supports cache controls, signed URLs/cookies, and TLS delivery. Deep Google Cloud integration
Google Cloud CDN integrates tightly with Google Cloud Load Balancing, Cloud Armor, and Google’s network edge. This reduces the need for separate provisioning and simplifies routing, TLS termination, and policy enforcement in Google Cloud environments. It also aligns with Google Cloud IAM and logging/monitoring patterns used across the platform.
Global edge caching footprint
The service uses Google’s distributed edge locations to cache content closer to end users. This can reduce origin egress and improve response times for globally distributed traffic. It supports standard HTTP caching behavior and respects cache-control headers, which helps teams manage cacheability using common web practices.
Security and access controls

This dependency can also increase switching costs if the broader stack is not on Google Cloud.
Less built-in media optimization
Compared with products focused on image and media pipelines, Google Cloud CDN does not provide native image transformation, automatic format negotiation, or asset management as a primary feature set. Teams often need separate tooling for resizing, transcoding, or dynamic media manipulation. This can add operational complexity for media-heavy sites.

Cache fill (data to populate Cloud CDN caches) — price per GiB:

HTTP/HTTPS cache lookup requests: $0.0075 per 10,000 requests (GET and HEAD methods cause cache lookups).

- On cache misses, applicable Cloud Load Balancing data processing fees or Cloud Storage operation charges apply (these are separate SKUs).
- Requests from Cloud CDN to external backends are charged at Compute Engine internet data transfer out rates.
- Network usage is measured in gibibytes (GiB); charges accrue daily and billed at the end of the billing period.
