What is Google Cloud NetApp Volumes
Google Cloud NetApp Volumes is a managed cloud file storage service on Google Cloud that provides NetApp ONTAP-based file volumes for enterprise workloads. It targets teams running applications that need shared file access (for example, Linux/Windows file shares) with familiar ONTAP data management features delivered as a cloud service. The service integrates with Google Cloud networking, identity, and billing while using NetApp technology for file protocols and storage management. It is typically used for lift-and-shift of file-dependent applications and for performance-sensitive shared storage in Google Cloud.
Managed ONTAP file service
Provides a fully managed file storage offering that uses ONTAP capabilities without requiring customers to deploy and operate storage VMs themselves. This can reduce operational overhead compared with self-managed virtual storage appliances. It supports common enterprise file-sharing patterns that depend on NAS semantics.
Enterprise NAS protocol support
Supports standard file protocols used by many enterprise applications, including NFS and SMB. This helps organizations migrate workloads that require POSIX permissions, Windows ACLs, or shared file locking behavior.
