What is PingPlotter
PingPlotter is a network troubleshooting and monitoring tool that continuously traces routes and measures latency, packet loss, and jitter between a user’s device and a target host. It is used by IT teams, network engineers, and MSPs to diagnose intermittent connectivity issues across LAN/WAN/Internet paths and to document where performance degradation occurs. The product focuses on path visualization and time-series history for traceroute-style tests rather than full-stack infrastructure observability.
Strong path-level diagnostics
PingPlotter combines continuous ping and traceroute-style measurements to show where latency and packet loss appear along a route. It keeps historical time-series data, which helps identify intermittent issues that are hard to reproduce on demand. The hop-by-hop view supports faster isolation of whether problems are local, ISP-related, or destination-side.
Clear visualizations and reporting
The UI presents latency/packet loss over time with per-hop breakdowns that are easy to interpret during incident triage. Users can capture evidence (screenshots/exports) to share with ISPs, vendors, or internal stakeholders. This is useful for MSP workflows where documenting root-cause location matters.
Low-overhead targeted monitoring
The product is lightweight for monitoring specific endpoints, circuits, or SaaS destinations without deploying broad agents across many systems. It fits use cases such as monitoring VoIP quality indicators (jitter/latency), VPN paths, and branch connectivity. This targeted approach can complement broader monitoring platforms when the primary question is network-path performance.
Not full-stack observability
PingPlotter focuses on network path metrics and does not provide deep application performance monitoring, log analytics, or distributed tracing. It will not replace platforms designed for correlating infrastructure, application, and user-experience telemetry. Teams often need additional tools for root cause beyond the network layer.
Limited network device visibility
It does not function as a comprehensive NMS for device inventory, configuration management, topology discovery, or SNMP-based health monitoring at scale. As a result, it may not cover switch/router interface utilization, hardware health, or configuration drift. Organizations with large environments typically require separate tooling for those functions.
Scale and automation constraints
While suitable for monitoring many targets, it is not primarily designed as a centralized, multi-tenant MSP platform with extensive automation, ticketing, and policy-based management. Integrations and alerting exist but are generally narrower than purpose-built IT operations suites. Large enterprises may find governance, role-based administration, and cross-team workflows less comprehensive than in broader monitoring ecosystems.
