What is Microsoft Power Automate
Microsoft Power Automate is a cloud-based process automation platform used to build automated workflows across Microsoft and third-party applications and services. It targets business users and IT teams that need approvals, notifications, data synchronization, and task orchestration, as well as attended and unattended desktop automation through RPA. Broad connector ecosystem
Power Automate provides a large library of prebuilt connectors for Microsoft services and many external SaaS applications. Advanced BPM depth varies
While Power Automate covers many workflow automation needs, complex BPM scenarios (e.g., highly structured case management, advanced process modeling standards, or deep process repository governance) may require additional Microsoft components or complementary tools. Process documentation and enterprise-wide process architecture features are not as central as in products focused primarily on process modeling and governance. Teams with heavy BPMN-centric requirements may need to validate fit for modeling, simulation, and lifecycle controls.
RPA reliability and maintenance
Desktop UI automation can be sensitive to application UI changes, screen resolution differences, and timing issues, which increases maintenance effort over time. Unattended automations typically require careful setup of machines, credentials, and exception handling to achieve stable operations.
