It is primarily oriented to enterprise PCs and laptops, not industrial controllers, gateways, or segmented plant networks. It does not provide an OT-specific secure remote access broker with session approval, jump-host patterns, or industrial protocol awareness as a core function. Organizations managing OT environments often need additional tooling for asset-centric access control and monitoring. As a result, it may not meet OT remote access requirements on its own.

Hardware and provisioning dependency

Capabilities require Intel vPro–eligible devices and correct firmware configuration, network reachability, and provisioning (often with PKI/TLS). Mixed hardware fleets or devices without vPro cannot use these features. Provisioning and certificate management can add operational complexity, especially across multiple sites. Some functions may be constrained by network policies (NAT, firewalls) and enterprise security hardening choices.

Security sensitivity of AMT

Because it provides powerful out-of-band control, it requires careful access control, patching, and monitoring to reduce risk.
