This can increase complexity compared with vendor-neutral automation frameworks.

Script and runbook maintenance overhead

Runbook-driven automation requires ongoing script lifecycle management, including versioning, testing, credential handling, and dependency updates. Without strong engineering practices, automation can become brittle and hard to audit. Organizations often need to establish standards and guardrails to keep runbooks reliable and secure.
