Azure-only execution environment

Labs run on Azure VMs, so the product is not designed to provision environments across multiple clouds or on-premises hypervisors. VM-centric lab model

The core abstraction is a virtual machine lab, which can be heavier than container-based or browser-based ephemeral lab experiences used for short interactive exercises. For some hands-on training, learners may need faster startup times and more granular, task-scoped environments than full VMs provide. This can increase image maintenance effort when many variants are required.

Lifecycle and feature uncertainty

Microsoft has announced retirement of Azure Lab Services (with a stated end-of-support date in 2027) and recommends alternative Azure approaches for lab scenarios. This creates planning risk for new deployments and may require migration work for existing lab catalogs.
