Organizations typically pair it with database backup and recovery products for comprehensive protection.
Licensing and operational complexity
GoldenGate deployments often require careful sizing, topology design, and ongoing operational management (process tuning, lag monitoring, and failure handling). Licensing and feature entitlements can be complex, especially in heterogeneous environments or when combining on-premises and cloud deployments. This can increase total cost and implementation effort compared with lighter-weight integration approaches.
Limited ETL-style capabilities
GoldenGate focuses on CDC and replication rather than broad ETL/ELT functions such as complex transformations, data quality, and extensive connector ecosystems. For batch-oriented integration, orchestration, or complex mapping, teams may need complementary data integration tools. This can lead to a multi-tool architecture when requirements extend beyond replication.
