What is Geotab
Geotab is a fleet management and telematics platform that combines in-vehicle hardware with cloud software to track vehicles and drivers, monitor safety and compliance, and support maintenance workflows. Broad telematics data capture
Geotab collects GPS location and vehicle diagnostic data (e.g., engine fault codes, odometer, fuel/energy use) through its in-vehicle device and supported OEM data programs. Fleet maintenance support features

For organizations that do not require a full CMMS, this can cover many day-to-day fleet maintenance tracking needs.
Not a full CMMS
While it supports maintenance reminders and diagnostic-driven alerts, Geotab is not designed as a comprehensive maintenance management system for complex work orders, parts inventory, and multi-site technician workflows. Organizations with heavy industrial maintenance requirements may still need a dedicated CMMS/EAM and integrate telematics data into it. This can add implementation and integration effort.
Hardware deployment required
Many core capabilities depend on installing and managing in-vehicle telematics devices (or configuring OEM data alternatives where available). Hardware procurement, installation scheduling, and device lifecycle management can be a barrier for smaller fleets or highly distributed operations. Coverage and data quality can also vary with vehicle types, power availability, and installation practices.
Configuration complexity at scale
The breadth of reports, rules, and add-ons can require careful configuration and governance to keep data consistent across regions, subsidiaries, and vehicle classes. Larger deployments often need role design, policy alignment, and ongoing administration to avoid alert fatigue and inconsistent KPIs. Teams may require training to use advanced reporting and integrations effectively.
